Product Description Training Camp is an inspirational story filled with invaluable lessons and insights on bringing out the best in yourself and your team. The story follows Martin, an un-drafted rookie trying to make it in the NFL. He’s spent his entire life proving to the critics that a small guy with a big heart can succeed against all odds. After spraining his ankle in the pre-season, Martin thinks his dream is lost when he happens to meet a very special coach who shares eleven life-changing lessons that keep his dream alive—and might even make him the best of the best. If you want to be your best—Training Camp offers an inspirational story and real-world wisdom on what it takes to reach true excellence and how you and your team (your work team, school team, church team and family team) can achieve it.

Training Camp is a True Life Coaching Tool for Anyone. A Must Read! May 19, 2009 Will Estell, Author, Wisdom & Wisecracks for the Aspiring Business Owner (Oxford, Alabama) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Training Camp: What the Best Do Better Than Everyone Else is a must read for anyone and everyone from the sports enthusiast to the business owner to those striving to be good parents.
With Training Camp, Author, Jon Gordan has used sports as a basic metaphor for readers to gain knowledge about overcoming, achieving, preparing, having faith, handling pressure, overcoming a bad day, and seizing the moment in whatever you as the reader may be involved in personally. This book is even better than Gordon's previous best seller, The Energy Bus. As a writer myself I only wish I had written this book because I firmly believe it stands to be one of the strongest self help and achievement titles of 2009. I highly encourage everyone who buys or has read my book- Wisdom & Wisecracks for the Aspiring Business Owner- to also read Training Camp. It will change how you think about overcoming, achieving and success in business and in life.

It sounds cliche, but it's not May 20, 2009 Joel Katte (Home of the Milwaukee Brewers) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Okay, we've all read books about the underdog who rises to the top through sheer determination and hard work with the guidance of a special coach. We've seen the movies (ROCKY and KARATE KID come to mind) in which coaches inspire athletes to do more than they ever dreamed possible. Why do we love books and movies with this story line? Well, I think it's because we readers and viewers believe the best in ourselves is yet to come...if only the right coach discovers and hones our true talent. Read this book and let the words of Jon Gordon be your coach. Follow Martin, a RUDY-like aspiring NFL football player, who attempts to defy the odds to make his childhood dream come true.
Read it and you will be inspired. Live it and you will inspire those around you.

WOW, WOW, WOW and THANK YOU are all I can think to say! I just finished Training Camp and I am so excited about your message. This is by far the best of your 3 and I love all of them. The message in Training Camp will make you reach deep inside of yourself to feelings you may have left behind in the past. I can't wait to share it with our team, friends, family and anyone else who will listen to me. You have out done yourself and millions of other writers I have read over the past years. Looking forward to your next book as I KNOW you will strive to do better than this one and I can't imagine what that could possibly be but I have faith in you!!! You are The Best of the Best in my book!! Shea M.
Life-Changing June 2, 2009 Todd Gothberg (Asheville, NC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this book....it is only incidentally about a rookie's struggles to make the cut at an NFL training camp. On a much deeper level, it is the realization that life is not about achieving success but of seeking lasting significance - once again, Jon delivers a message which will have a life-changing impact on those who read it. Of his three books, this is his best - and "The Energy Bus" & "The No Complaining Rule" are phenomenal reads. I have three daughters (18, 15, 9) who are all reading it. The book (and it's message) is a true blessing.
More than football August 7, 2009 William J. Sauber (Sebastopol, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The story is simple and straightforward about the rookie wanting to make the NFL team. Underneath the simple story, however, are a series of concise, easy to understand, easy to remember, and easy to implement lessons about becoming your best. There are many books about companies and organizations (In Search of Excellence, Good to Great, etc.) that offer insights on what makes some companies excellent. Training Camp is about what makes individuals great. This book also has a solid message about ethics/morals in becoming your pesonal best. A great contrast to the Ken Lay/Bernie Maddof culture of false riches, no ethics and the inevitable conclusion. Training Camp's last 3 points sum up why the message is different and superior to other "self-help" books that focus only on selfish rewards and satisfaction. I can identify these 3 traits in all the best and most admired leaders throughout history. I am working to enact them in my life.
